Home or Lot?

  • Here at Weiniger Homes, we have a wide variety of properties for you to choose from. Condos, apartments, homes, and lots. You can choose anything that suits your lifestyle and your budget, and we’re there every step of the way to help you achieve your goals. But what do you do when you find yourself stuck between choosing a home (whether it is already built or in need of repairs for a solid fixer-upper project) or a lot?

  • The choice will ultimately depend upon what you intend to do with the property. This can include both short term and long term prospects. It can also depend upon how much money you are willing to spend or invest in the property. Also under consideration may be how soon you need a home or structure for your use.

  • Generally, a lot or section of land is for the purpose of building. If you intend to use the land for commercial purposes, and purchasing an older, readily available building does not suit your needs, then starting from scratch can be a great option. You will then have to survey the lots available and consider how close to certain areas you need it to be, how easy construction will be, and so forth. The same can be said if you intend to build a house. The main reason for constructing a house from the ground up is to obtain the exact home you want. Everything is down to your specifications. You don’t have to worry about redoing an older house; no need to tear down zebra-striped wallpaper or paint over a glowing ochre-colored ceiling. In some cases, a lot can be much cheaper than a house; though building a house takes careful budgeting and planning. In the end, the decision is up to you and your specific desires.

  • Buying a home instead of developing one yourself is much easier, though finding one that suits each and every one of your desires can be tough. Many may come close to being your dream house—if only the bathroom was a little bit bigger or the kitchen countertops were marble instead of granite. However, homes are often easy to fix to suit your needs. Countertops can be changed, and even if the bathroom can’t actually be made bigger, a smart interior designer can figure out ways to give it the illusion of looking bigger. A home that does not begin as the ideal house can eventually be transformed until it is precisely what you wanted. There are all sorts of options available to you once you begin to look for them.

  • In the end, the choice between lot and house will be yours. Consider the amount of money you are willing to spend, the time you want to put in, and your overall goals for the property.
